Topic: My Career as a Freelance Writer
The hilarious* Shirl Hayes has been a professional freelance writer for the past four years. She got her start volunteering at the Greenbelt News Review, the country's oldest, volunteer-run newspaper. Currently she adapts novels into scripts for full cast recordings of audio theater for Graphic Audio (more than 30 of them so far), and writes articles for NASA's Tech Briefs Magazine and Defense Briefs Magazine. She has also enjoyed writing art and music reviews and the odd scrap of poetry. Shirl will share her exasperations and exhilarations as a freelance writer struggling to make a go of it and succeeding.
*Well, at least she had the audience in stitches at the MWA Writersï¾’ Conference a couple of years ago.
