The Baltimore Chapter, co-sponsored by the CityLit Project and the Write Here, Write Now workshops, presents Auditions for the Baltimore Book Festival CityLit Stage. Our reading theme this year is "Overblown, Overrated, Over the Top: Readings from Celebrity Memoirs." Come read a ten-minute (max) excerpt from the memoir of your favorite celeb or someone you love to hate, and if you win you'll get to read it live on stage at the Baltimore Book Festival!

Celebrity biographies are the peacocks of the book world -- strutting, preening, and self-congratulating. But sometimes they're really just dodos in disguise. You're invited to slip into character to read selections of the salacious and the sanctimonious, the humble and the humorous (intentionally and otherwise). Whoever you decide to "channel" onstage, we're inviting you to present us with some surprising mismatches, more than one toppled sacred cow, and plenty of laughs.

Costumes, wigs, and props are encouraged -- whatever helps you get into character. No masks, please -- they'll make it hard for people to hear you! Costumes are not required for the audition.

Judging will be performed by a highly biased and easily swayed panel of your MWAB friends and fellow meeting attendees. And you know what a tough crowd we are. Please note that there are only five ten-minute slots available, so come prepared to dazzle!

You do not need to be a member to audition, but if you're not a member and you win, you must join MWA by September 21, 2009. Membership forms will be available at the audition; you may also join online.
